What the afternoon looks like
You tell us who you want to play with and we put you on court together. Our four
coaches feed the balls and run the games, every game is first to eleven points, and we
keep rolling through different formats for the full two hours.
Then the sofreh comes out. A sofreh is the cloth a Persian meal is laid out
on, and everyone sits around it and shares. We are cooking one traditional Persian dish
from scratch, and we are not telling anyone what it is until the day.
Who it is for
Every level is welcome, from people who have just started to players who compete on
weekends. The games are handicapped by format rather than by grading, so mixed
abilities on the same court works fine.
You do not need to be able to serve. Our coaches feed every ball to
start each point, so there are no serves at all. If the serve is the part of your game
that keeps you away from social tennis, this format takes it out completely.
You do need to be able to rally and keep score. If you have never picked up a racquet
this is not the right first session, and a group lesson or a private lesson is a much
better place to start.
Under 18s are welcome, but a parent or guardian needs to book for them and stay for
the session.
Booking, and bringing a partner
- $65 is for one player. If you are coming as a pair, both of you
book and pay separately. One booking does not cover two people.
- Tell us your partner's name when you book, in the box at checkout.
If you forget, just reply to your confirmation email with it.
- No partner? Book anyway and tell us. We will do our best to pair
you with someone of a similar standard. We cannot promise a match, and if we cannot
find you one we will tell you before 4 October so you can take a full refund.
- Numbers are limited and we close bookings once the courts are full, so book early
if the date matters to you.
What to bring
- Your racquet, if you have one. We have spares if you do not.
- Court shoes with a non-marking sole, a hat, sunscreen and water.
- Balls and all coaching are provided.
- Food and soft drinks are included. You are welcome to bring your own drink as
well if you would like something else.
The food, allergies and dietary needs
One traditional Persian dish, cooked from scratch, served after we finish on court.
We are keeping what it is a surprise until the day.
- It is not vegetarian or vegan. If you do not eat meat, this part
of the event will not work for you, so please bring something of your own.
- It may contain nuts, dairy, sesame and gluten. It is cooked in a
kitchen that handles all of these, so we cannot call it free of any of them.
- Tell us about allergies or dietary needs when you book. We will do what we can,
but we cannot guarantee an alternative meal.
- If you have a serious allergy, please bring your own food and any medication you
may need. We would rather you were safe than polite about it.
Cancellations and refunds
- Before 4 October 2026: cancel for any reason and we refund the
full $65.
- On or after 4 October 2026: no refund, for any reason, including
illness and injury. By that point the courts, the coaches and the food are all paid
for, so we cannot recover the cost.
- You can send someone else instead. If you cannot make it, pass
your spot to another player and tell us their name. There is no fee for this and it
works right up to the day.
- To cancel, email info@sydneytennisschool.com
or call 0469 942 845. Refunds go back to the card you
paid with and usually take five to ten business days.
- If we cancel or postpone the event, you choose between a full
refund and a spot on the new date.
Weather
We play through light rain and light wind. If the courts are genuinely unsafe or the
weather is extreme, we will move the event to a new date rather than cancel it, and
you can take a full refund instead if the new date does not suit.
We will let you know by text and email by the morning of the event at the latest.
Health, safety and injuries
Tennis is a physical sport and two hours of doubles is a real workout. Please only
book if you are fit enough to play for that long.
- You take part at your own risk, and you are responsible for your own
injuries. Sydney Tennis School, our coaches and the venue are not liable
for injury, illness, or loss of or damage to your belongings.
- Nothing on this page excludes or limits any rights you have under the Australian
Consumer Law.
- If you have a medical condition, an injury, or you are pregnant, please check with
your doctor before you book, and tell us on the day so our coaches know.
- Bring any medication you might need, including an inhaler or an adrenaline
autoinjector, and tell a coach where it is.
- Please do not come if you are unwell. If that happens after 4 October we still
cannot refund you, but you are very welcome to send someone else in your place.
- Stop and tell a coach if something hurts. There is a first aid kit on site and our
coaches will call an ambulance if anyone needs one.
Photos and video
We take photographs and video on the day and use them on our website, in our emails
and on our social media. Booking a spot means you are happy for us to do that.
If you would rather not appear, tell us when you arrive and we will keep you out of
shot. You can also email us afterwards and we will take down anything you are in, no
questions asked. If you are booking for someone under 18, this applies to them too, so
tell us then.
On the day
- Arrive by 1:45pm. We start on court at 2pm and we cannot hold a spot or extend the
session for late arrivals.
- Our coaches set the pairings, the courts and the formats. Please go with their
calls, even when you would rather keep playing with the same partner.
- Look after the courts and the venue, and take your rubbish with you.
- Please be decent to everyone there. We can ask anyone to leave without a refund
for unsafe play, abuse, or turning up affected by alcohol or drugs. We have never
had to and we do not expect to.
- Your belongings are your own responsibility. Keep valuables with you courtside.
Your details
We use what you give us to run this event and to tell you about future ones. We do
not sell or pass your details to anyone else. Your card details go to Stripe, our
payment provider, and we never see or store them.
Email us any time to be taken off the list or to have your details deleted.
These terms were last updated on 12 September 2026. If we change
anything before the event we will email everyone who has booked.
